Throughout history women have had an incredible role to play in leadership, politics, business, and shaping the world we live in. But for most of the life of the Christian Church women have not been permitted to be pastors or leaders in ministry. In the last 100 years this has started to shift and in the ELCA women have been ordained as pastors or officially called to other forms of rostered leadership for nearly 50 years. But for many people in the world the biblical picture is one that still paints women as sub-ordinate to men and not capable of being leaders in the church. In this week’s episode the Beyond Sunday team is celebrating the gifts of women serving and ministry and tackling the challenges that women still face in the Church. If you have a story about being a woman in ministry we would love to hear from you! Send us your stories at beyondsundaypodcast@gmail.com.

*Episode Note: In an effort to provide weekly episodes during Patrick’s absence we recorded this episode several weeks in an advance. On May 4th, 2019 we saw the news that Rachel Held Evans died after a brief battle with a serious illness. The Beyond Sunday Team offers Rachel’s friends and family our prayers during this difficult time.
