Episode 34 - The Early Church
Everything has a starting point. For the Church as we know it today that point was the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Before that moment there were the Jewish people and the religion devoted to the one God. After that moment, the apostles and first believers had to figure out what it meant to follow Jesus when he was no longer with them. They started gathering in one another’s homes, meeting secretly and in public, sharing meals together, praying together, and using their possessions to care for one another. This is the early Church: before there were pastors or councils or popes or a buildings or even a New Testament there were people of faith trying to follow Jesus and supporting one another.
What would we gain by recapturing some of the themes and practices of the early Church? What do we share in common and what are we thankful is different? On this episode Katie and Pastor David are tackling these questions and challenging us all to rethink our current practices and may lift up some practices from those who had walked with Jesus and were the first to receive the Holy Spirit.
