Episode 132 - Resurrection Hope

Easter is here (for 7 more weeks!) and with it comes the central teaching of the resurrection. In the past two weeks two major violent events have capture the nation’s attention. This week the Beyond Sunday Team is wrestling with the challenging question: What responsibility does the Church bear for the sins of its members? Episode 122 - Mercy v. Righteousness: Lessons from The Mandalorian

Which is more faithful: Following the letter of the law or seeking to love your neighbor? Our faith regularly encounters situations that puts us up against this question. This week the Beyond Sunday team is pulling in an example from the Star Wars universe of the recently release episodic story The Mandalorian. We’ll follow this religious zealot’s path as he chooses love of his neighbor over “the way” of his religious order. Then we’ll look for every day examples where we too have to choose between fundamentalism and faithfulness; between righteousness and mercy.

Episode 121 - Faith and Insurrection?

Last week’s events at the CapitOl had implications that reached out into the entire CapitAl and through out the nation. Most jarring, as far as Beyond Sunday is concern, was the prevalence and seeming complicit approval of Christians in these actions. In the aftermath Christian leaders from across the political spectrum are speaking out to denounce these actions and many are calling for repentance starting with themselves. This week on the podcast we look at an article by David French, well known conservative writer, and look for ways that the Church can move towards healing after allowing, if not fully enabling, the events that have unfolded in the last several months. You can find the full article here.

Episode 116 - The Hot Pastor Problem

Is your church suffering from the “hot pastor problem”? In the wake of another leader in a major church leader resigning due to indiscretions that are, at least in part, connected to the pastors sense of, and perhaps desire for, celebrity the Beyond Sunday team wants to examine what we look for in our congregational leaders and how physical attractiveness plays into our perception of someone’s leadership. Do we unfairly associate physical appearance (or maybe charisma) with an ability to lead? Do we downplay leadership qualities that are actually highlighted in scripture? All of this and more on this week’s episode of Beyond Sunday.
