Episode 53 - ELCA Social Statements
The Beyond Sunday Team works at Lord of Life Lutheran Church which is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). In August the ELCA had their triennial Church Wide Assembly which brings together delegates from across the country to discuss and make decisions about a range of issues facing the church today. This year the delegates approved three particularly unique and potentially controversial statements around immigration, sexism, and slavery.
This week on the Podcast we’re breaking down these statements to try and gain a little more perspective than what we hear in the 1 minute soundbites. How do these statements direct our local congregations and personal faith? What does it mean to be a “sanctuary” denomination? What exactly do we mean when we say things like “patriarchy” and “sexism”? We hope you’ll join this conversation with us and let us know what you think by sending us an e-mail or posting on our Facebook page.
